James is an artist who is interested in showcasing the beauty of geometry and woodworking using ethical and sustainable local wood. Naked Geometry creates functional design to craft everything from end tables to lamps to pendants. His environmentally friendly, community-based business is based out of Pittsburgh but is continuing to expand.

“I don’t think I would be here if I wasn’t in this community, the community here is the honestly one of the most supportive places I have been in my life.”

Kiva has had a huge impact on James and his business. Without capital to purchase proper tooling, his business would have been at a standstill. Naked Geometry has quadrupled its business in the year since receiving a Kiva loan.

With plans to continue to grow, James is designing new products and offering his existing products in a wider variety of sizes. Currently, they are prototyping a 10 layer coffee table, and mirrors for homes. In addition to these new products, they hope to buy a laser cutter within the next year, at which point they would be able to create almost any design they could imagine.

James firmly believes that you get what you put into any business. He enjoys the freedom that comes with owning his own business and loves being able to create more functional and sustainable furniture designs. Check out their beautiful designs at https://nakgeo.com! Their products can also be found at I Made it! Markets owned by Carrie Nardini. Carrie was James’s Trustee when funding his Kiva loan. Carrie says, “his pieces always have a story – James is very passionate about geometry and I see that passion spark interest in others.”
